First Blog Post!

Salutations readers and welcome to my new website! It's exciting to put this into writing knowing that my debut book will be released soon. During this first blog post I wanted to share a little bit about myself, what started my writing journey, and a little bit of the inspiration for The Necromancer (my upcoming book, which if you haven't heard is being released on October 31, 2025!).

The first thing you should know about me is that I did not go to school for writing. I spent pretty much my whole life dreaming about science, tech, and engineering. In high school I really enjoyed chemistry, physics, math, and the works (I know, I don't sound like a very relatable guy, but trust me it gets better!). I got both my bachelors and masters degrees in chemical engineering and worked hard to build up my career in engineering. There were a few times throughout my education and early career that I had some health issues and when I visited the doctor, I was told that they were stress related and they all gave me the same advice: find a creative outlet.

So that's what I did. I began trying various hobbies in my free time to relax and use my creativity for something that didn't have a deliverable or deadline involved. I tried all kinds of things, pickleball groups, airsoft tournaments, video games, building and flying model airplanes, and the list goes on. While some of those I found fun and exciting, they never really stuck. I had always had writing a book on my bucket list so I thought I'd give it a whirl.

It took me a while to come up with an idea to start writing, but once I did I had a blast! I wrote a couple of short stories and the beginning of a novel that I only shared with my wife and she convinced me that writing was something that I should pursue in earnest. It is a lot of work, don't get me wrong, but writing has become something of an escape from reality for me. I can clock out of my faced paced engineering job and come home and spend some time with fantastical characters in far off places which has been truly therapeutic for me.

The Necromancer and the rest of the Mage Guild Archives are particularly close to my heart. I have always loved stories with lots of magic in them. I grew up reading the stories of Harry Potter, Frodo Baggins, and Eragon. One of the things that I loved about those stories were their deep rooted themes of good and evil, family, courage, love, and sacrifice. I felt that if I wanted to write something that would last even just in my own mind, it needed to have a core of belief. Something that gave it a soul so it wasn't just people shooting sparks out of sticks.

I decided to focus on grief and loss as that was something that I had struggled with in the past. Those are heavy topics to cover in a debut book, but the idea took over my whole life (just ask my wife). I spent a long time curating characters, back stories, scenes, and settings and what came out the other side was rough, but I felt like it really did have the soul of what I set out to create. Years later and after countless hours of reading, editing, re-reading, and editing some more, The Necromancer is finally ready to be released into the world! I'm so excited to share this tale of bravery, grief, magic, and healing.
